Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My magazine would be distributed by would be a bigger cooperation such as IPC, Bauer, Dennis and Future, I have gone with a big distribution as I think this it would increase the sales of my magazine as it would be sold in franchises such as Tesco and W H Smith, it isn't a niche magazine as 'teen pop' is a popular magazine genre with Top of the Pops magazine having a circulation of 104, 709 people, if I chose to go with a small/independent publisher I would loose out on a larger audience and therefore not make as much profit. although a negative of going with such a big distributor would be all the competition my magazine would go up against and not being a well known name next to popular teen magazines such as 'we love pop' could really effect the profit.

The advertising I think would work for my magazine and attract my target audience would be celebrity endorsements, television adverts and social media as the youth of today are on social media 24/7 and when they are not on social media they are watching television, I also think celebrity endorsements would be good as if my target audience saw a celebrity they follow or like reading the magazine they would then want to copy them as they think it is cool, as a status symbol or, want to be like them.

My magazine could also be available online as not only would my target audience be more likely to see it online and think its a better and more modern idea to subscribe to it online, there is also a obvious fall in the sale of print magazines leading to the closure of a lot of well known magazines, so expecting a new magazine to sell in a crowded market in print might be a lot harder then expected and digital may be the way forward however people do like to spend their money and buy a physical magazine- my target audience perhaps using their pocket money, they might not even have a bank account? so I think both digital and print could work well.
