MOJO Magazine

MOJO magazine is a UK music magazine that comes out every month; it features all the well-known classic artists who feature as guest editors including David Bowie, Noel Gallagher and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. This magazine features reviews, interviews with famous artists and includes a free CD. 72% of the readers are ABC1 and the mean age is 43 which means they aim for an older target audience. Published initially by Emap and purchased in January 2008 by Bauer, the first issue was in November 1993 and sometimes publishes special editions on a variety of music topics such as the Beatles and Punk music. MOJO’s target audience are 30 to 50 years old with 28.8% of their readers being 45 to 54, and 73.1% being male. Their advertisers include Gillette, Samsung, Peugeot and Skoda which are all well-known brands and are aimed at older men which address their target audience appropriately and their demographic audience is 59.5% which is of the ABC1 profile. MOJO magazine say their typical reader is a 37 year old with a high disposable income who is educated and appreciates the classics whilst still enjoying the more modern music. The MOJO cover is very simple and minimalistic with the master head being always in plain black or plain white and the cover image usually being in black and white, this shows that their audience is classy and older as they don’t need bright colours to attract them it is purely about the music. Their online presence is quite popular with 18,000 email subscribers, 103 thousand Twitter followers and 36,400 Facebook fans which show’s that they appeal to more people than they would if they were only a print magazine with their circulation being 83,676 and their readership being 220,000.
